From December 15 to 20, Ethiopia hostes a visit by representatives of two Russian Universities of RUDN and MEPhI to negotiate with leading universities of the country, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Ethiopia on the topic of training of Ethiopian specialists in nuclear energy in Russian universities as part of the October summit in Sochi Russia-Africa Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation between the two countries in the peaceful uses of atomic energy.
On December 17, the RCSC hosted a meeting with members of the delegation of RUDN University Dr. M. Kakh, Deputy Director of the Faculty of Medicine Yu. Gushchina and Head of the Department of Protocol, Marketing and Exhibition Activities of the Department of International Cooperation “MEPhI” V.V. Romanichev with the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Ethiopia A.M. Tsykunov. During the conversation, issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Ethiopia in the field of education and interuniversity cooperation were discussed, as well as about the assistance of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the development of the agreements reached with the Ethiopian side.
On December 18, representatives of Russian universities and a representative of Rossotrudnichestvo met with the Director of the Department of International Relations and Scholarships of the Ethiopian Ministry of Higher Education Meteku Hunda, where they discussed issues of increasing Russian scholarships through Rosatom for Ethiopian students. Also, the representative of RUDN University, Dr. M. Kakh, informed about the RUDN program “Time to study in Russia”. The program provides for the provision of additional scholarships from RUDN University to the winners of Olympiads that the University holds in various countries in order to support talented youth.
During their visit, members of the Russian delegation held lectures and work meetings at Addis Ababa Universities, ministries and departments of Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian side reacted with great attention and interest to the proposals of the Russian side. It was agreed that the Ethiopian Ministry of Higher Education will consider the possibility of sending Ethiopian scholarship holders to study in Russian universities in the specialty in nuclear energy as early as the 2020/2021 academic year.
